About Me

Who is Wendy Scalfaro?

I am an aspiring writer of fiction (short and long), non-fiction, and whatever else inspires me. I currently write book reviews for School Library Journal, and occasionally I contribute to the “At the Library” newspaper column in the Syracuse Post Standard’s “Stars” section, a Sunday magazine. I am also somewhat of a crazed genealogist/family historian, and plan to write on this subject as well. Professionally (i.e. the “day job”) I am a library media specialist in an Upstate New York high school, where I have been since 1999. I love the job because I get to interact with everyone (students and teachers) about books. My very favorite “position” is as mom of two amazing kids who keep me busy, keep me guessing, and keep me young.

  1. Hi Wendy,
I’m quite sure that I’ve read and used some of your book reviews! I worked for 5 years at the elementary school library of the American School in Japan and now teach kindergarten at the Jakarta International School in Indonesia. I thought that the elementary library was the best job on the planet for the same reasons you cite. I have to say, though, that the kindergartners are also providing the busy, guessing and young service. They also make me laugh every day. What a gift!
Hope you enjoy the program and that the tools we’re introducing can be of benefit in some way to each of those wonderful sides of you. Let us know how we can help.
    Barbara
